“I Think I Can…”

Filed under: Uncategorized — jjohnson at 12:45 pm on Thursday, August 12, 2010

I Think “I CAN”, I Think “I CAN”!

We want you and your child to be aware of the skills that are being taught in Kindergarten.

We want students to know what we expect of them. The way we hope to accomplish this throughout the year is by using “I Can” cards.

Each week we will inform you of a new set of skills we will be learning about. We will assess weekly on these on-going skills. (For example, one goal or skill will be “I can rhyme words”.) Each child will have a binder ring to collect all of the skills that he/she has mastered. When your child has mastered the set skill, he/she will earn an “I Can” card to add to his/her binder ring. By the end of the school year, the hope is that your child will have a rainbow of “I Can” cards on their ring. “I Can” cards provide you and your child with a visual reward to see all of their accomplishments—we are SO proud of your child’s first “I Can” cards!

“I Can” binder rings will be sent home in the black classwork tracker every Friday. PLEASE PLACE THE RING BACK IN YOUR CHILD’S BACKPACK IMMEDIATELY AFTER LOOKING AT IT so that your child will have it on Monday when we assess new skills.
Please understand that we will not be able to replace your child’s “I Can” ring if it is lost.

Thank you for your support as we begin this exciting method of learning!
