Fall Break a SUCCESS and On to HALLOWEEN!

THANKS goes out to everyone for their participation in South Edmonson’s 2011 Fall Festival. It takes effort from a lot of people to make an event like this such a success. Thanks to all the basket donations for our class’ “Family Movie Night.” Our basket was auctioned for $200, which will go directly back to our classroom funds. A great big CONGRATULATIONS to our room representatives in this year’s Royalty Contest  Lily Jayne  Vincent and Cam Lich, who even earned the title of South Edmonson Prince-2011! I am so proud of our kids and thankful to our parents and community~and as a parent, I know that hearing my own child talk about it for hours and play his blow-up guitar all weekend, the hard work and long day for Fall Festival is really worth it!

Due to our class participation in Fall Festival activities on Friday afternoon, spelling and reading tests were unable to be sent home. Look for those in folders on Monday.  Several students also did not pick up folders before leaving Friday afternoon, those are still in the folder box at school. Many parents noticed that their child did not bring home textbook for reading homework last week–teacher could have forgotten to give a reminder!  After a wonderful Fall Break and all the exciting Fall Festival activities, we will work to get back in routine with reading groups, homework and computer lab work in the coming weeks.

This week’s study will include these LEARNING TARGETS:

I can spell words with long i and silent e

I can read words with –ch,-wh and -tch.

Students are required to learn to spell the list of words AND also apply the i__e (CVCe) pattern to read new words. Look for a list of words to practice reading in addition to the spelling word list on the newsletter. Our text book story will be Who Works Here? and will feature community workers. We will have a visit from a police officer and a fire truck and firemen!

I can use subtraction within 20 to solve problems.

We will review and test on GO MATH! Chapter 2 this week. Look for a practice test that you can review with your child before the test, which should be on Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how we progress through the review.

We will also be working on Halloween activities and decorations. Our class theme is “spiders.” Students have started two spider crafts that we will complete and are learning about the topic. You can help your child at home by doing a search on spiders and helping your child write a Spider Fact to share with the class.

Looks like we have our work cut out for us! Hope you have a happy and productive week!
